Design & Technology
The world always seems brighter when you've just made something that wasn't there before.
Neil Gaiman
Aim
The principal aim of the Design & Technology department is to develop an awareness of design and how it relates to the world in which we live.
Approach
The Technology workshop is a bright purpose-built space with extensive equipment. Children have a one-hour long Design & Technology lesson each week delivered by a Design Technology subject specialist.
Throughout Key Stage 2, children will be given a wide range of opportunities including using resistant materials, textiles, food technology and mechanical systems. All projects include the generation of ideas, materials, techniques and processes as well as product analysis and testing and evaluations.
Pupils are provided opportunities to welcome guest speakers with an emphasis on the Design industry. Children are supported with scholarship applications and encouraged to extend and explore work independently.
