Maths Week
This week, Warwick Prep pupils have enjoyed being challenged by a variety of mathematical learning experiences as part of Maths Week England, alongside 662042 other mathematicians from England and beyond. Designed to foster curiosity and provide young people with a positive image of maths, Maths Week England is only in its second year and has already engaged a staggering number of young people.
Children from Nursery to Year 6 have enhanced their learning of mathematical concepts through songs, play, drawings, games, puzzles, competitions and even through live webinars hosted by Cambridge University. Just a typical week at the Prep School, really, with perhaps the exception of live webinars! It has been wonderful to see and hear the children around school sharing their stories of Maths in the corridors and playground. Not to be outdone by an investigation posed by Cambridge University’s Nrich Project on Tuesday, some of the Year 6 girls continued to work on their solutions at break time and at home! In readiness for next week’s Primary Maths Challenge, an annual competition hosted by the Mathematical Association, Year 6 and selected Year 5 students have been working on practice papers during Maths Week, with some of the toughest questions perplexing even the brightest of minds (teachers included)! I am already eager to see how the girls fare next week!
